While surfing the web using StumbleUpon.com, I came across a company by the name of SeaDragon which had recently been acquired by Microsoft. Their technology is currently on exibit at labs.live.com. Using SeaDragon technology, there is a limited showing of the BBC series 'How we built Britain'.
Not necessarily genealogy news but interesting nonetheless.

Hotmail now has 2Gb
June 10, 2007
Microsoft, in an ongoing competition with Google, has increased the amount of space per mailbox to 2Gb. A couple of items that would be a nice addition to Hotmail. First, there does not appear to be any support for SSL. That means that all of our email is flying around out there in open text. Next, while there is an option to import contacts from a CSV file, I don't see any way to import calendar items from another application (even Outlook).
It would also be nice if you could use the Hotmail 2Gb to store files as you can in Google but it is definitely a step in the right direction for Microsoft.

Having Fun with Google
June 07, 2007
One of the many items available from Google is 'Google Apps'. It is intended for small office/home office (SoHo) customers but can be used for small project teams. You get email addresses, calendars, word processor, spreadsheet and starting web page. If you have a domain, it can all be customized. So I bought wheelerfiles.com and tailored Google apps. I intend to use it for genealogy projects but it is also just fun to have (and use) when I am away from my laptop. Go to start.wheelerfiles.com. Please let me know if you are interested in a free email address with the domain name. Email me at wheels(at)wheelerfiles.com.
