Data Cleansing

January 18, 2007
While we're nearly done with moving everything from the old house to the new house, I still haven't unpacked everything and I still haven't setup my workspace. So, it has been a good time to clean up the database and remove some of the bad or incomplete information. I've been using a combination fo GenSmarts and Placefinder to correct locations. I've uploaded the corrected database of which I am sure that there are still errors. If you find anything to be erroneous, please let me know and I will make sure that it is corrected.

Speaking of dirty information, Amy recently noticed that there were bad comments (by bots) posted to many of the blog entries. What was at first thought to be a couple hundred of entries turned out to be nearly 4000 entries. It didn't take that long to clean them out but I definitely have better things to do with my time. Therefore, I have disabled anonymous (unregistered) comments to the blog. If you would like to post a comment, you will need to be a registered user.

gSpace

January 09, 2007
I blogged in the past about Mozy.com and the value of using the 2Gb of free space to back up files. Well, if you have a gmail account, you have close to another 3Gb of remote storage. Google "gmail space" and you will find that with FireFox and a FireFox addon you can access that storage. The one downside of the solution, that I found the hard way, is that you are limited to files that are 10Mb and smaller since files are stored as email messages. Hopefully Google will formally announce gSpace and we can upload backups of our trees.

Happy hunting!

More pictures from the cruise

We reached out to Cindy Lorenz of FlyAway travel to follow up on some things from the cruise and to also see what she could recommend for our honeymoon. She provided us with a link to over 400 pictures that she took during the cruise including pictures of us, George & Drew of the GenealogyGuys podcast, Eileen and Sean O'Duill and many more pictures. You can see them all on Shutterfly at http://genealogycruise2006.shutterfly.com/.
